Artists in Schools

Artists in Schools (AIS) invites writers, historians, and
visual and performing artists into the classroom.

AIS encourages teachers and artists to design creative projects together
to enhance the existing curriculum.

AIS is for pre-K – 12 teachers and artists in Monroe County public and private schools or other organizations that serve children in that age group,
and for Monroe County libraries.


Project goals
To learn about an art form or historical or cultural tradition
To experience a new process
To observe a professional artist as a role model
To work directly with an artist or historian

Student goals
To increase knowledge of an art form
To be able to demonstrate skills or techniques
To increase one’s sense of accomplishment and self-confidence
To enhance one’s powers of perception and creative communication



AIS awards up to $1,000 per grant for artist’s services and materials.

Deadline for a fall-semester project: May 31

Deadline for a spring-semester project: November 30

 Applications in Microsoft Word ® format can be picked up at the Arts Council office at the
following address.

Mail or deliver one original and five copies of the application to:

The application must be postmarked or hand delivered by May 31 or November 30.
The application must be typed or filled out legibly in dark ink.

A teacher may collaborate with an artist of any discipline. The artist and teacher must collaborate on the proposal. Signatures of the teacher, principal, and artist are required on the completed proposal.

The project must be completed during the same school year.

The grantee will receive monies on a reimbursement basis,
upon completion of final report.

FKCA will pay the artist directly pursuant to the grant request.
The artist must be paid for his or her time. A recommended artist wage is $35 per hour of classroom time. The artist's workspace must be provided, and the teacher must remain with the students at all times.

The grantee's final report will include photographs and
written material documenting the project.

All publicity about the project must include the
Arts Council logo and the following credit line:

An Arts Council board or staff member may visit any funded project.
