Dolphin Auctions Planned

The Monroe Council of the Arts is busy making plans to find homes for all of the imaginative and unique dolphins "parading" up and down the Florida Keys in their "Dolphins on Parade" art event. While these colorful creatures are currently residing at their sponsor’s locations, gala auctions are being planned for March 22-24, 2001.

Sue Pfeffle of Key West, Eric Hathaway of Banana Bay Resorts, Key West and Marathon, and Louise Orzel of Key Largo are chairing the Key West, Marathon and Upper Keys events, respectively.

Banana Bay Resorts in Marathon will host the Middle Keys event with a reception on March 23, and the Customs House in Key West will be the site of the March 24 event. The Arts Council will hold an auction in the Upper Keys on March 22 at a location yet to be determined.

In addition, plans for online bidding are also being discussed.

A portion of the money raised at these auctions will be given to the artists who created these one-of-a-kind works of art, and the balance will help support popular Arts Council programs such as Artists in Schools and ArtReach. Information on Artists in Schools, ArtReach and "Dolphins on Parade," is available on the Monroe Council of the Arts web site, www.KeysArts.com.
