Resources for Assistance

Please share this information with any visual, literary or performing artist or any cultural organization in the Florida Keys who may need it.

Call FEMA -   1-800-621-FEMA(3362)

Anyone who has been displaced due to the hurricane (owner or tenant) is eligible for FEMA assistance.

 Call 800/621-3362 to ask for disaster relief (they will give you a number).

 Information they need:

-         Social Security number, including spouse

-         Private insurance information, if available

-         Address and zip code of the damaged property

-         Directions to the damaged home or property

-         Daytime telephone number

 Or you can go online and apply directly.

 Be sure to get a disaster number. If you are OKed to get assistance and do not receive a check within a week, call the FEMA number above and inquire about the status of your money. Be sure to give them your disaster number.

Feeding Locations/Hygeine Facilities

The Red Cross has opened two feeding kitchens:

Bernstein Park at the corner of 5th Street and 5th Avenue on Stock Island

Fifth St. Baptist Church, 1311 5th St.serving at noon and 5 p.m.

In additon to the feeding locations they have several mobile feeding units that are rotating through the Keys. The Salvation Army has several locations:  FOR TODAY ONLY 10/27/2005

Stadium Trailer Park

The Red Cross and Salvation Army locations DO NOT have water or ice, they are serving hot meals only.

Showers

The Florida Keys Outreach Coalition has opened a mobile shower unit at the rear of the Key West Police Department.  The facility will be open Monday thru Friday 1600 to 1900 hrs, Saturday 0900 to 1100 hrs and on Sunday 0900-1100 hrs and 1600 -1900 hrs.  Towels and personal hygiene items are available free of charge.

Mobile Disaster Recovery Centers EXPECTED to open today:

Upper Keys

San Pedro Catholic Church, 89500 Overseas Hwy, Plantation (MM 89)

Middle Keys

San Pablo Catholic Church, 550 122nd Street, Marathon (MM45)

Lower Keys

Key West City Hall, corner of Simonton & Greene

Power

Key West Energy - approximately 2000 without power, mostly in Big Pine

FKEC - Less than 2000 without power with approximately 400-500 in Duck Key

Trash

The first pick up for non-vegetative debris will begin Saturday, 10/29/2005.

Schools

School are scheduled to reopen for students on Monday 10/31/2005.

Transportation

The JGT Bus resumed normal route schedule (Florida City thru Marathon).  Key West Bus has resumed limited operations.

Both airports are open for daylight operations ONLY.  Both have sufficient avation fuel.

No rental cars are available at either airport.  The current waiting list for rental cars is over 200 with no anticipated date of availability.

Recreation

State Parks remain closed.

Fantasy Fest has been rescheduled for December 7 - 10. Goombay will announce new dates soon.
