Deadline Postponed for Third Annual Writers Guild Award

In deference to the disarray caused by Hurricane Wilma, the Florida Keys Council of the Arts announces a later deadline for the Third Annual Writers Guild Award. The award offers a $2,000 prize for a talented writer working on either a novel or a work of non-fiction.

The new deadline is now March 30, 2006 rather than the previously-announced December 31, 2005. This will allow enough time for applicants to read from their work at two meetings of the Key West Writers Guild, one of the criteria for making application.

The Key West Writers Guild meets mornings at 10:00 a.m. on the second and fourth Saturday of the month at Kelly's Caribbean Grill in the Writers Room. Membership in the Key West Writers Guild is $10 annually.

The award recipient will be announced on June 30, 2006. Funds are distributed in two installments, the first in April and the second after a satisfactory status report.

The application form for the Key West Writers Guild Award is available online at www.keysarts.com, the website of the Florida Keys Council of the Arts. Applications and manuscripts should be hand delivered during a regular meeting of the Key West Writers Guild or mailed to Key West Writers Guild, PO Box 4983, Key West, FL 33041.
