Kathryn van Aernum

Shooting pictures for 30 years, Kathryn honed her film and darkroom skills working as a darkroom apprentice in Virginia. She now shoots only digital and produces both color and black and white images. She continues her quest to create black and white images with the nuance of film. Her signature, “Photographics” series, employes techniques to render her images with a silk-screen like quality with highly saturated color. Subjects from the mundane to the sublime capture her imagination and she continues to cultivate a sense of spaciousness in her photography. The elements of design: harmony, balance and rhythm present themselves to Kathryn almost subconsciously, allowing her to capture a moment that transports the viewer into their own minds, memories and dreams.
